The Shark Club Closes

Monday, March 8th, 2010

It’s been nearly 7 years since TPD’s first event at The Shark Club. The Shark gave an opportunity to TPD in it’s infancy, when we were merely yours truly (tj) & DJ Vinnie B. The reality of it all was that Vinnie B was one of The Sharks favorite DJ’s and has maintained that title for most of the last 10 years. When we formed TPD in 2003, he was kind enough to let me tag along and build a base of friends in the area. If it weren’t for the Shark none of this would have ever happened.

We did a number of different events at The Shark throughout 2003, Bikini Contests and such, but finally, in Feb. 2004 we made it our home on Thursdays. The great people that I met over the next 18 months of $1 Beer Thursdays were innumerable. Those nights were legendary, with Paul, Chase, Brian & Jon behind the bar, as well as 600-800 people every Thursday night, the formula never failed.

Our first run at the Shark ended in October of 2005, only for us to return 3 different times over the next 5 years. Whether it was Vendetta, Just Us, F*ck The Paparazzi or “The Bracelet” it was something to write home about. If you haven’t ever been to one, you’ve missed DJ’s like DJ Scene, Risk One, Evil One, Deniro, Reaction & Steve1Der. You’ve missed acts like Dan Purser, Shwayze & Dirt Nasty. Don’t worry, you have one more chance to make it down, this Thursday 3/11/10, at The Shark Club

There’s no denying Seattle Nightlife as whole has taken a hit with economic crisis the rest of the country has undergone but we’re proud to announce that, as the industry has been hurting, we are back. 3 weeks of sold out events across the board, hundreds of heads and thousands of photos later - Nightlife is making a comeback.

Three cheers for everyone in the industry, TPD or not… Keep the support systems strong and keep showing love for our city!

Hope to see you all out soon!

People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

In a city that barely holds a stick in comparison to the rest of the country as far as nightlife goes, we seem to be easily convinced of this grand disillusion that Seattle encompasses all that makes the world go round; that we’re untouchable, so to speak. What amuses me more than anything is how quick people are to point a finger at someone else for things they’re equally as reproachable of doing.

Hello, Pot, this is Kettle and you are black.

Nightlife as a whole is susceptible to the criticisms of anyone and everyone; whether they’re jaded by something, not part of the “inner circle” of their choice or those who simply chose not to live their lives in the limelight. But the criticisms and maxims come with the territory, as they do in any other industry. Stereotypes and prejudices don’t define people and if you truly believe otherwise you’ve got another thing coming. Hell, if they did I’m sure every mortgage broker or loan officer in the past two years would have been to rehab twice and filed bankruptcy by now, every “Joeys Girl” would have made their way through every social group in the city and those of you who simply enjoy going out on a regular basis would be deemed coke heads and groupies.. or both.

What a lot of people do not take into account is that behind the scenes, first and foremost, what we do is a business; the limelight comes with the territory. No one in their right mind is going to let some farcical speculation get to them in this industry. Especially when it’s coming from someone hiding behind the comfort of complete anonymity. I guarantee whoever feels the need to berate others for anything, whether between friends or on a public forum, is losing more sleep than the people they feel so compelled to talk about. Like I have always said, if people are talking, you must be doing something right. It’s flattering, really.

And flattery will only get you so far… When we’re sittin pretty w/ a hefty skrill flow in 5 years and you’re still running your mouth about whoever pissed in your cheerios that week, just remember: You are only as good as the love you have for other people, including yourself.

Think about it.

:)

Cheers.

Scene it all before.

In an industry where anyone can get their foot in the door with as little as a myspace account and a lot of free time, ever wonder what it is about nightlife that attracts people? Everyone wants to be a promoter, everyone wants to be VIP, etc, etc, etc..

What happens when the old schoolers turn 30 and are still partying it up like and with 21 year olds? What happens when 21 year olds who once had to earn their way into the scene have egos the size of their “friends list” on some networking site?

If you’re on this site, you’re already engaged in the scene on some level. What defines your scene?

Bringing back Seattle Nightlife - 1 Proposal at a time !!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

To summarize, there is a proposal in our state legislature that could completely revitalize nightlife as we know it. It does a few things, most importantly it removes the cities regulatory power over NightClubs. This essentially eliminates the cities ability to protest liquor licenses, which is something that normally occurs after any minor incident. It also makes it easier for entrepreneurs to open up new clubs as it eliminates costly food requirements. Lobby your state congressmen/women, lets work together and make this happen.

DJ Evil One, Legendary?

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

What to do when a market of full talented artists and DJ’s becomes so saturated, it’s own followers can’t even tell the difference between a nationally acclaimed headlining DJ and a local green pea? Break the norm and redesign the blueprint of which the majority of us use to define these talents today.

See one extremely talented DJ, Evil One, for yourself at The Shark in Kirkland tonight and at Imperial VIP’s 1 Year Anniversary Party at Last Supper Club tomorrow night; Los Scandalous, Sin City, NYC, AZ, PDX & now Seattle - He will rock it, guaranteed.

DJ Evil One Portrait

Time to step up the ever so repetitive game of ‘accredited’ DJ’s in the world of weekly events.

Lights, Camera, Rehab.

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

In one of the few industries where it’s socially acceptable to “party like a rockstar,” where do you draw the line? The lifestyle is easily glamorized but is there a dark truth that lies beneath the pseudo-charmed life of a promoter, professional partier or socialite? When does recreational cross the line to adverse and risky? In the last 2 years I can count 6 people that were once parts of my life that are no longer here because recreational turned lethal. Having been on both sides of the spectrum in all variables, multiple cities and different aspects of this industry, one starts to wonder who’s going to be next.

Scary sh*t.

Imperial VIP 1yr Annivesary

Congratulations is in order !! One of Seattle’s 10,000 promotion companies is turning a year old this Friday.  It may not seem like much, but lasting a year in this industry is a very formidable challenge considering all these bs you have to deal with on a nightly basis.  They’ll be celebrating at Last Supper Club this Friday, check it out if you have time.

Jimi Hendrix Vodka - Peace !!!!

Electric Hendrix Vodka

Electric Hendrix Vodka

It seems that every time you see a bottle of Hendrix Electric Vodka on a bar shelf someone has to bring up the court battle.  If you haven’t the slightest clue what I’m referring to then let me fill you in.  In 2005 Craig Dieffenbach and Leon Hendrix (Jimi’s half brother) decided that they were going to develop and start marketing a new Vodka bearing Jimi’s name and likeness on the bottle, of course, like all responsible business men, they did so without permission.  What makes this story even better, is that Leon Hendrix had not only been cut out of the will by his father Al who was in control of Jimi’s estate until 2002, but he also lost a court battle with his sister who currently controls the estate, for a cut of the estates $80,000,000 worth.  I guess good old Leon thought that the 3rd time would be a charm.  Unfortunately someone popped his entrepreneurial bubble, requiring Craig Dieffenbach and Leon to pay 3,200,000 in damages as well as pull the product from every shelf it currently rests on.  So if you see it anywhere, have a shot, it won’t be there for long.
